DALLAS — Even as a 19-year-old rookie, Dallas' Luka Doncic continues to make his case for an NBA All-Star spot.

Kawhi Leonard is already one, and came through to spoil Doncic's career-best game Sunday night.

Leonard, voted last week to start the All-Star Game for the third time, scored 33 points to help the Toronto Raptors overcome a triple-double from the Dallas rookie in a 123-120 win over the Mavericks.

Third time's a charm for Robyn Silvernagle. 

The North Battleford skip outlasted Saskatoon's Sherry Anderson by a score of 6-5 to win the 2019 Viterra Scotties Provincial Championship in Humboldt.

For Silvernagle, the victory felt much sweeter, after falling in the finals the past two years - being defeated by Anderson in 2018. After the intense finish, Silvernagle was all smiles and said she’s ready to realize her dream.

African Cup pushed back 6 days because of Ramadan

CAIRO — This year's African Cup of Nations in Egypt has been pushed back by six days to cater for Ramadan and allow Muslim players time to rest and recover after a month of fasting.

The Confederation of African Football said Monday the tournament will now kick off on June 21 instead of June 15. The final was put back six days to July 19. The move came after a request from a group of North African nations and CAF approved the delay at a special executive committee meeting on Saturday.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka is the first player from Asia to top the men's or women's tennis rankings while Canada's Bianca Andreescu jumped 38 positions to a career-high No. 68.

Osaka is the youngest woman to make her debut at No. 1 in nine years.

"I feel like I'm literally just still learning," the 21-year-old Osaka said. "Everyone kind of adjusts to being No. 1 in a different way."

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Malaysia's government has remained defiant despite losing the right to host the World Para Swimming Championships after it banned Israelis from competing in the event, a qualifying competition for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad was unapologetic.

"We stand by our principle, which is that Israel is a criminal nation. It has been breaking international law without anybody saying anything," he said Monday. "We have a right to voice our feelings and to have our own policies."

Toronto FC says Giovinco absence from training camp is health-related

TORONTO — Amidst reports that a transfer was in the works, star striker Sebastian Giovinco left Toronto FC's California training camp on Monday.

But a club spokesman said the absence was health-related.

The TFC representative said the agent for the Italian international, who turned 32 on Saturday, asked to take Giovinco to a doctor in Los Angeles "to evaluate some leg tension he's been experiencing."

The club said Giovinco was expected back with the team Monday afternoon. TFC is training at the University of California, Irvine.

Winnipeg's Valour FC has signed teenage forward Tyler Attardo and former Canadian youth international midfielder Dylan Carreiro.

The 17-year-old Attardo, who has played provincially for Manitoba, had two stints with Italian club Chievo Verona's residency academy program in 2016 and 2017-18, spending five months with the club on each occasion.

"Tyler is a player I know well and have been following his progress over the last few years," Valour FC coach and GM Rob Gale said in a statement.

NEW YORK — Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby, San Jose Sharks centre Joe Pavelski and Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk are the NHL's three stars of the week.

Crosby earned MVP honours at the 2019 all-star game on Saturday as he led the Metropolitan Division to victory in the 3-on-3 tournament. He became the sixth player in NHL history to capture All-Star Game MVP honours as well as the Hart Memorial Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy, joining Jean Beliveau, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr and Joe Sakic.

HAMILTON — Star receiver Brandon Banks has signed a two-year extension with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The 31-year-old finished the 2018 season first in the CFL in receiving touchdowns and second in receiving yards and receptions, despite missing four games. He suffered a season-ending broken clavicle in the 16th game on the 18-game schedule.

Canadian Rory (Red King) MacDonald will defend his 170-pound title against veteran Jon Fitch on April 27 in the fourth and final opening-round matchup of the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix.

The card, at San Jose's SAP Center, will also feature flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (9-0-0) against Veta Arteaga (5-2-0) in the co-main event. Macfarlane is coming off a December submission win over Canadian Valerie Letourneau in her native Hawaii.

MacDonald (20-5-0) will have to put his title on the line each time he fights in the eight-man tournament.

Canadian forward RJ Barrett wins ACC Freshman of the Week honours

DURHAM, N.C. — Rising Canadian basketball star RJ Barrett has been named ACC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season.

The forward from Mississauga, Ont., averaged 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in a pair of ACC wins last week, as the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils defeated Pitt and Georgia Tech.

Barrett has 16 20-point games this season, two shy of the Duke freshman record for a season held by Jabari Parker. He leads the ACC in scoring with an average of 23.9 points per game.
